BIO
Deborah Ledyard b. 1968- is originally from upstate New York, USA. She lived more than a quarter century in North Texas in typical suburban style, proudly raising a seeming picture-perfect family. Over the years, she struggled to suppress the angst of her creative muse with the busy-ness of community service. Eventually, of course, as typical tales go, she found herself divorced and grasping at straws for what happens next. All of this was emotionally frustrating for her because she never liked being typical. So Ledyard made a plan: Step one was achieving her BFA in Art Education (with sculpture concentration) from The University of Texas at Arlington. Step two was relocating to the progressively creative haven of Austin, Texas. Finding a career position as a first year art teacher in her new hometown, step three, proved unattainable and so she floundered for a stretch.... Fear not faithful reader, there is more. One day, Ledyard woke-up realizing she was tired of making excuses and waiting for everything to be perfect and it was time to be who she had always been. So she took a deep breathe, swallowed her fear and began calling herself "Artist." Everyone thought it was about time. Today, Ledyard works out of her commandeered dining room studio in Austin, Texas, at least for the time being. It's an efficient space where she can dive into the work anytime creativity calls without having to commute to a studio. However, the space is somewhat small and makes it rather difficult to entertain at home. Turns out... with the surrender to the muse, an art teaching position also fell in her lap. Being both a professional artist and a teacher are incredibly interesting ways to do a life. |
